Reviving Stika-Lulu

stika-lulu-collector-tin-totally-pop461-0179_PI_1000255MNRecently I discovered that the Stika-Lulu line has been discontinued, which is a shame considering there was so much detail in the designs of the stickers, and they were of an extremely high quality. The characters were individual and had adorable designs, and as for the packaging – gorgeous.

And the stickers weren’t just plain and boring, you could get sparkly ones, glitter, glossy, soft and puffy, glitter puffy, and treasure stickers – with floating sparkles and gems inside! Each sticker had a precious rating and then there were the collector’s edition stickers too, that only came in exclusive packs.

stika-lulu-collector-tin-hip-city6Everything about Stika-Lulu was colourful and bright, and each character so was individual  – there was a sticker style for everyone. There are four Lulu girls, including Poppy, Missy, Scarlett and Yumi and each had there own Stika-Lulu brand.

Poppy was the creator of Totally Pop, inspired by pop art and vibrant colours. Her stickers featured deep blues, greens, hot pinks, and eye popping yellow – and don’t forget orange! Her collection featured food, animals, and a lot of 80s inspired designs.

375276_173756982723158_1502834795_nYumi was the creator of Kioko, inspired by Japanese fashions, and pastel colours. Yumi’s designs would feature adorable kokeshi-style doll stickers, food, teddy bears and anything fit for a princess!

Missy’s designs are called Hip City and were inspired by the city streets. Her stickers feature big, bold lines, vibrant colours and soft pastel backgrounds. She draws animals, transportation and  footwear.

And finally is Scarlett with Moonstruck, inspired by the gothic and spooky things. Her stickers are creepy cute featuring vampires, creatures of the nights, crescent moons, and Victorian ladies.

375276_173756986056491_1196808245_nEach Stika-Lulu girl had too different lines within their brand; the Blossom and the Berry, which featured pastel and vibrant colours respectively. If that wasn’t enough, then the girls had their own website, where you could put in the secret codes on the backs of the sticker cards to unlock the stickers on the website to decorate your own virtual room. Stika-Lulu even had their own magazine – even though only one edition was published – which featured full length art of the characters and fun activities, also there was a short story which explained the backstory to the Lulu girls who came together from all over the world. Scarlett’s from Paris, Missy’s from New York, Poppy’s from the UK and Yumi’s from Japan.

375276_173756979389825_2020437171_nJust look at their adorable bedrooms! Each girl’s style simply radiates from them! Unfortunately, there was a down side to Stika-Lulu, and that was the price. For such good quality, I would expect to have to pay quite a bit of money, and the collector’s tins were around £5 each. The average stickers was 50p, (that’s 50p per sticker!) which certainly isn’t cheap! If you were to type in Stika-Lulu onto e-Bay you would find hoards of the stickers being sold off at cheap prices, so now’s your chance! In regards to reviving Stika-Lulu, we at the Doll Collector’s blog decided to do a little bit of e-Bay hunting of our own, because there was no way we were going to let this wondrous collection be lost forever – so you can expect a Stika-Lulu haul in the very near future. During our brief stint as YouTube doll vloggers we talked about Stika-Lulu on multiple occassions and the videos received a comparatively large amount of views, suggesting that everybody in the doll world wanted to know who these cuties were. Can you argue with that?

375276_173756976056492_691995729_nIt was only recently that I thought about Stika-Lulu again, because I was curious as to how they were getting on. You can imagine my surprise when I found out that they were no longer available to buy, and the website had been taken down. Luckily I could find all that I needed to know by looking at the Stika-Lulu Facebook page, which isn’t active anymore, but I could find the beautiful artwork for the girl’s rooms. I’m unbelievably excited to receive the package that we sent for, because there was so much more potential for Stika-Lulu to be a best seller! All I can say now is, I’m looking forward to which company takes on the sticker challenge yet, and I just hope their attempts will be as amazing and creative as the Stika-Lulu girls.
